Long Pose Figure Painting Course

Course Outline:​

 

The goal of this class is to take the students through the process of constructing a representational style figure painting using a tonalist approach to painting

 

The students will be tasked with producing a series of smaller studies of the figure in the same pose, which will inform the final larger figure painting.

 

The studies include:

 

• Pencil drawing (approximately A4 in size)

• Value study in oil on canvas (same size as pencil drawing)

• Transfer drawing (approx A2 in size)

• Final painting in oil on canvas (same size as transfer drawing

 

Tools that will be covered include

 

• Gesture

• Shape

• Proportion

• Value

• Colour

• Edges

• Handling of materials

 

 

Some short demos will be part of the class, and every student will receive individual critiques every class.
